Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What are your current lead times?

Lead Times are currently running 6-8 Weeks (Lead Time- Time from order is placed until it ships) with the current production demand. We are seeing a number of orders shipping out well ahead of this projected window as well. We are working as quickly as possible to get all orders completed and shipped out to our customers.  Thank you so much for your business and continued support. Please let us know if you questions regarding these times, we are happy to assist.

What is the Light Detail option?

The Light Detail refers to a specific key or feature of light that is vital for proper molding and fitting of the holster. For most lights, this option refers to the set of keys that are included with the light. These keys attach to the top of the light and fit into the notch of the rail when attached to the firearm. There are often multiple key options for different firearms and each one will change the position of the light on the rail. It is important that the matching key for the firearm and light setup is selected so the desired fit is correct. The easiest way to confirm the key, is by removing the light from the rail and the number will be visible on top of the light. Other light details may include a simple selection of which variant of the light is used or a choice between two mounting options. Please note as well that light keys even of the same manufacturer will likely fit different on specific lights (For example: The keys of a Streamlight TLR-9 have the same numbers as the TLR-7/TLR-8, but they position the lights differently on the rail of the same firearm). It is important to only select the light key that is confirmed to fit for each setup.

If there is not a specific gun listed, can you still make a holster for it?

We maintain one of the most extensive inventories of in-stock weapons to use for molding purposes. Additionally, we have a large network in place where we can source weapons to use for molding purposes. Even if it is not one we specifically have listed on the site, feel free to contact us to see if we can make one for your gun.

Are you willing to take on custom projects?

As a company who prides ourselves on creativity and innovation, we always love to hear ideas from our customers and turn them into a reality. If you have had an idea in your mind for a holster you would like to see, feel free to contact us. While we can’t guarantee that we will be able to complete your project, we would be happy to discuss this with you. Pricing and lead times can are handled on a case by case basis.

For guns with safeties, which position do you mold the safeties in?

Our standard is to mold all firearms with safeties so that they will function in either position.

If I have a light mounted holster, can I carry my gun without the light in the same holster?

Our official company position is that we do not recommend this to our customers. We recommend that any individual who may alternate carrying their gun with or without the light purchase dedicated holsters for each of these applications. With that said, our experience has shown us that the level of retention provided by the light compatible holster even when there is not a light is acceptable for some users. The tension is created through friction between slide and holster. We definitely know that a “SWAT roll” or any other kind of aggressive movements will cause the weapon to fall out of the holster. If you are purchasing a holster which is molded with an open end (ie. All Glock 19/23/32 holsters are molded with an open end so that they can accommodate a 17/22/31 in the same holster), and it will not provide any function without the light on the pistol. If you have any questions regarding this, please let us know.

Will the holster wear the finish on my gun?

This is probably the topic which we receive the most questions about regarding our holsters. We can honestly tell you that all holsters WILL wear the finish of your weapon. In our experience, KYDEX® holster wear about the same or less than other types of holsters. Over time, the KYDEX® is actually better for your weapon, especially in humid climates because it acts as a moisture barrier between your body and the weapon.

This keeps your gun dry as opposed to moist leather sitting on the finish of your weapon. In the spirit of full disclosure with our customers, we can honestly say that we have only had 1 issue with wear on the finish of a gun. One customer had an Ed Brown 1911 where they felt the holster had worn more than a regular holster on the finish of the weapon.

With that said, we have made hundreds of holsters for other Ed Brown’s and various other high-end 1911’s and not had issues with any of those. Also, in the thousands of other holsters we have made for other production pistols, we have never had a customer contact us with any issues. If you have any concerns or would like to speak with us before order, please feel free to contact us at any time.

Does BlackPoint have any paddle options available for any products?

We do not have any paddle options currently available.

Why do you leave the bottom of your gun holsters open?

When operating in some harsh environments, dust and debris can very easily work its way into the holster. By leaving the bottom of the holster open, it allows any debris to harmlessly fall through the holster instead of collecting at the bottom. If you have a threaded barrel and would like the KYDEX® to cover that, please note that in the comments section on your order.

After an order is placed, can I change it?

Given the fast nature of our production cycle, there is very little time to be able to make changes on an order before it is already in production. For changes, please contact us as quickly as possible. Typically we can accommodate them if it is within one business day of when you placed your order.

What is your return policy?

For all of our standard products, we offer a no questions asked 30 day return policy. We will issue you a full refund for the purchase price of the holster. For custom work, we can offer the customer a 30 day return window as well. The only difference is that on custom work $20 of the cost is non-refundable. This goes to sources outside of BlackPoint and this money is paid before the holster is produced. As this goes to external sources, we have no mechanism for getting those funds back.

How long does the warranty last on a holster?

We offer an unconditional lifetime warranty on our products. If the holster ever breaks or any parts wear out, please let us know and we will gladly replace them for you. Rest assured as you are placing your order that this is likely a policy that you will never need, but if something happens, we will stand behind our product 100%.
